What have I been up to?
In early 2025, Level Best Books will launch my multi-volume true crime travel guidebook series under my nonfiction (i.e. actual) name, Dawn M. Barclay, called Vacations Can Be Murder: A True Crime Lover’s Travel Guide. If you want to see where the crimes took place, where the bodies are buried, and even visit crime museums and haunted restaurants and hotels, this is the series for you. Find out more by joining the fun at VacationsCanBeMurder.com.
I’ve thrown myself into TikTok and Instagram. You can check out book trailers, promos, and words of writing wisdom at https://www.tiktok.com/@authordmbarr and https://www.instagram.com/authordmbarr/. Be sure to follow me but remember, I’m still learning this stuff so be kind!
I’ve been asked to become one of the bloggers at Miss Demeanors and it’s an honor to join this group of talented female authors. My first blog should appear sometime in late September or early October. I’m not on the masthead yet…but soon!
I also just got back from Bouchercon 2024 in Nashville, It’s the world mystery conference and it was great to touch base with my publishers at Level Best Books, meet fans, connect with old friends, appear on a panel, and talk books for four days straight. Here are some photos—see if you recognize these authors.
Coming up:
I have four, count ‘em, four books coming out in the next year. The first, New York State of Crime: Murder New York Style 6, will be released by Down & Out Books on September 16th (coincidently, my birthday!) I co-edited this fantastic anthology of twenty New York State-related tales of suspense. Contributors include some terrific members of Sisters in Crime New York/Tristate whose names may ring a bell or two. The introduction is by the multi-award-winning S.J. Rozan, and inside, you can find my third published short story, “Orchestral Removals in the Dark.” You can preorder the book here.
My Book Recommendation for the Month:
It’s an older book but check out Thirteen by Steve Cavanagh. It’s the best book I’ve read in a long time and the audiobook is excellent too. It’s part of the Eddie Flynn series (a former con artist turned lawyer) and is about a serial killer who insinuates him/herself on the jury as part of a murder trial. To divulge more might involve spoilers so I will just say—no one gets you into the action faster than Steve.
